Mississauga Steelheads Sign Czechia Defenceman Jakub Fibigr

The Mississauga Steelheads announced today the signing of defenseman Jakub Fibigr to a Standard Player Agreement.

“We are excited to add Jakub to our ‘23- ‘24 roster,” said James Richmond, the Steelheads Head Coach and General Manager. “He is a strong two-way defenceman that is equally strong at defending the rush as he is at transitioning the puck on offence. Jakub has played internationally for the Czechia National Team, and we look forward to helping him with his development.”

Born in Univov Czechia, Fibigr was selected 16th overall in the 2023 CHL Import Draft this July. Fibigr was one of 28 Czechia natives selected in the draft and one of two selected by the Mississauga Steelheads. Fibigr played for both HC Vitkovice’s U17 and U20 clubs this past season before multiple stints in international competition. Most recently, the 6’0’’ defenseman represented Czechia at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup this summer, posting 2 points (1G, 1A) in 5 games helping them secure a silver medal.

Fibigr commented on signing with the hockey club. “I am very grateful and happy to have the opportunity of being a part of such an amazing organization. I’m super excited and will do the best for the team. Can’t wait to see you all in Mississauga.”
