Cricket has always been more than just a game. It’s about teamwork, resilience, and passion.
And this year, it’s about hope. It’s about coming together for something bigger than
ourselves. It’s about creating brighter tomorrows for cancer patients everywhere.
The Princess Margaret Cricket to Conquer Cancer is Canada’s first-ever street cricket
fundraiser, hosted by The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation on May 31, 2025. This event
offers cricket lovers, and those just discovering the game, a chance to step up to the crease
and make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones. How? Every dollar
raised will fund life-saving cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the
world’s leading cancer research and treatment centres.
“The effects from this fundraiser will know no bounds,” said Dr. Amit Oza, Head of the Division
of Medical Oncology & Hematology at The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. “Funds raised
by our passionate community of participants help lead to the breakthroughs that will help patients here in Canada and around the world. As a cricket enthusiast myself, I am delighted
we can celebrate this amazing sport while creating a global impact on cancer research.”
Why Join Cricket Now?
Cancer is a disease that touches all of us. In Canada, 2 in 5 people will be diagnosed with
cancer in their lifetime.
That’s not just a statistic, it’s personal. But while the numbers are daunting, there is hope. The
Princess Margaret is at the forefront of innovation, conducting groundbreaking research that
leads to better treatments and improved survival rates. But research needs funding, and
that’s where you come in.
“Cancer doesn’t need awareness, we need impact, and we felt here at The Princess Margaret
Cancer Foundation that cricket would have the best potential to provide that,” said Brendan
Ennis, Senior Director of Corporate & Community Partnerships at The Princess Margaret
Cancer Foundation.
Cricket is one of Canada’s fastest-growing sports, especially within diverse communities. The
GTA is home to one of the largest South Asian populations in North America, where cricket is
more than just a sport, it’s a tradition, a passion, and a way to bring people together.
“Cricket is becoming one of Canada’s most popular sports,” said Steve Merker, Vice
President of Corporate & Community Partnerships at The Princess Margaret Cancer
Foundation. “This inaugural event, a first of its kind in North America, aims to raise
substantial funds for the Cancer Centre while inspiring thousands of new supporters to take
on our vision to create a world free from the fear of cancer.”

this event a celebration for survivors and an inspiration for all those during their journey.”
