Discover the joy of cycling during Bike Month! This annual celebration promotes the benefits of biking for individuals and communities. As a sustainable mode of transportation, biking helps reduce road congestion, keeps people healthy and active, and allows individuals to connect with nature and explore many destinations throughout town. Bike Month in Oakville and across the GTHA will kick off with Bike to Work Day on June 1 and residents are encouraged to choose cycling to commute to and from work for the day (and every day!)
Bike Month is coordinated by Cycle Toronto and supported by the Town of Oakville, the Town of Halton Hills and the City of Burlington.
When biking, safety comes first
As part of the town’s Bike Month initiatives and ongoing efforts to raise awareness about cycling safety, the town is working with the following seven local community agencies to provide bike safety equipment to children and families at no cost: Food for Life, Front Line Outreach, Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre, St. Luke’s Anglican Church, The Salvation Army, Oakville Sikh Gurdwara and ClearView Church. Items such as bike lights, bells and 1,000 youth helmets will be provided to residents who may not have the opportunity to directly access these important safety items to encourage more children to learn bike riding skills to travel safely, be confident and have fun.
Bike Month events

Get out and ride! Enjoy the town’s cycling system and facilities
Oakville has 1,501 kilometres of on/off road cycling paths and sidewalks and 249 kilometres of active recreational trails, as well as cycling infrastructure which includes traffic safety features, and bike storage and parking, such as:
Bike lanes on Bristol Circle and Winston Park Drive
Cycle to explore areas within east Oakville using new bike lanes on Bristol Circle and Winston Park Drive, made possible with funding though the Ontario Municipal Cycle Commuter Program.
Protected bike lanes on Speers Road (Third Line to Fourth Line)
Protected bike lanes on Speers Road makes it easier, safer and more enjoyable to bike along this major connector road.
Secure bicycle parking at the downtown parking garage
There are 15 secure bike parking spots at the 300 Church Street parking garage. The area includes a multi-tool repair and tune-up station with standard screwdrivers, wrenches, a built-in pump with pressure gauge, and more.
Bike to bus along Third Line
You can now bike to any of the 12 bus stops along Third Line from Abbeywood Drive/Kings College Drive to Pine Glen Road, lock your bike at one of the installed bike racks and board Oakville Transit to complete your trip.
Crosstown Trail
The Crosstown multi-use trail from Neyagawa Boulevard to east of Trafalgar Road connects with community centres, public transit, parks, schools and other key destinations, and features a bike repair station at the Sixth Line intersection. Upgrades to the section of trail from Khalsa Gate to Sixteen Mile Creek are expected to begin this fall to enhance accessibility and safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
