9th January 2025: Ontario Premier Doug Ford walked away uninjured after the vehicle he was traveling in was involved in a collision on Highway 401. The incident happened around 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday in the westbound lanes at Brock Road in Pickering.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed that Ford and other passengers in the vehicle, operated by the OPP Protective Services Section, were not hurt. However, two individuals in the other vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later discharged.
According to police, the collision occurred as Ford’s vehicle was leaving the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, where he had held a press conference about a new energy partnership with the U.S. The premier described the incident as a sudden sideswipe.
“We were driving straight, and out of nowhere, the car got sideswiped,” Ford told reporters at Queen’s Park. “It was bad, but thankfully, I’m OK. This head is like limestone—hard as a rock.”
Ford also expressed concern for the other driver, who ended up on the opposite side of the highway, and said, “I just pray he’s OK.”
The OPP later announced that an 18-year-old driver from Oshawa had been charged with dangerous driving. He is set to appear in an Oshawa court in February.
The police confirmed that the injuries sustained by the other driver were non-life-threatening.
