Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has announced a new “shadow cabinet” ahead of Parliament’s return next week, assigning critic roles to more than half of his MPs — with a strong focus on experience over new faces.
Unveiled on Wednesday, the shadow cabinet represents the Official Opposition’s roster of critics in the House of Commons. With Poilievre currently without a seat after losing in last month’s federal election, former party leader Andrew Scheer will take on the role of House Leader in the interim. Poilievre is expected to contest a byelection in rural Alberta, where an MP has temporarily stepped down to create the opportunity.
Key leadership roles remain unchanged: Melissa Lantsman and Tim Uppal continue as Conservative deputy leaders, while Arpan Khanna has been appointed the party’s national outreach coordinator.
Pierre Paul-Hus will stay on as Quebec lieutenant, while B.C. MP Mark Strahl has been named a special adviser for British Columbia.
Several high-profile MPs are returning to familiar positions, including Jasraj Singh Hallan as the finance critic — a role once held by Poilievre himself — and Ontario MP Larry Brock, who will continue in a prominent critic capacity.
