July 6: A major political controversy has erupted in Punjab following the brutal attack on Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri. The incident occurred in Amritsar, where Suri was shot dead during a protest outside Gopal Mandir, a prominent temple in the city. The presence of police at the scene did little to prevent the attack, leading to widespread criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s handling of law and order in the state.
The attack has intensified political rivalries, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) all targeting the AAP government. Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for a strong response to such violent acts to restore public confidence in the state’s security apparatus.
The AAP government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is now under significant pressure to address these security concerns and demonstrate effective governance.
