Rahul Dev performs brother Mukul Dev’s last rites in Delhi as film fraternity mourns

24 May: Actor Mukul Dev, best known for his roles in films like Son of Sardar, passed away on Friday night at the age of 54. His funeral took place at Dayanand Mukti Dham in New Delhi, where close family members and friends from the film industry gathered to bid him a final goodbye.

His brother, actor Rahul Dev, was seen performing the last rites and greeting those offering condolences with folded hands. Visuals from the funeral show a grieving Rahul maintaining his composure as he fulfilled the final responsibilities for his late brother.

Vindu Dara Singh, who shared screen space with Mukul in Son of Sardar, spoke to the media, recalling fond memories. Fighting back tears, he said, “He had gained some weight recently, but with encouragement from friends like Ajay Devgn, he was getting back to fitness. Mukul was a kind-hearted soul. Please remember him with love and keep him in your prayers.” Vindu Dara Singh revealed that Mukul had been unwell for the past 8 to 10 days and was emotionally impacted by his mother’s passing, which led him to neglect his health.

Rahul Dev confirmed the heartbreaking news earlier in the day on Instagram. Sharing a picture of Mukul, he wrote, “Our brother Mukul Dev passed away peacefully in New Delhi last night… He is survived by his daughter Sia Dev, missed deeply by siblings Rashmi Kaushal, Rahul Dev, and nephew Sidhant Dev. Please join us for the cremation at 5 PM.”

Several Bollywood celebrities took to social media to express their grief. Actor Manoj Bajpayee wrote an emotional tribute: “It’s impossible to put into words what I’m feeling. Mukul was like a brother to me. His warmth and passion were unmatched. He left us too soon. Praying for strength for his family and everyone mourning this loss. Miss you, meri jaan. Om Shanti.”

Ajay Devgn, another co-star from Son of Sardar, also posted, “Still trying to process this… Muku. It’s all too sudden and too soon. You always brought lightness even on the heaviest days. Om Shanti.”

Vindu Dara Singh also revealed that Mukul was preparing to make a comeback on the big screen with Son of Sardar 2.

The late actor is remembered not just for his performances but for his gentle nature, vibrant personality, and the warmth he shared with everyone around him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones and the film community.
