17 August: A Toronto man has been arrested and is now facing 101 charges in connection with an extensive auto-fraud investigation, according to Toronto police. The 43-year-old, identified as Winkle Lejarde, is alleged to have been involved in fraudulent vehicle transfers at various ServiceOntario locations, dating back to November 2023.
The investigation began in July when police received information regarding these activities. ServiceOntario cooperated with investigators, leading to the discovery of Lejarde’s involvement in multiple vehicle-related frauds. On August 9, police executed a search warrant and subsequently arrested Lejarde.
The charges against him include 15 counts of uttering forged documents, nine counts of fraud over $5,000, and nine counts of altering or removing vehicle identification numbers (VINs). Authorities believe there may be additional victims and have released an image of Lejarde to aid in their investigation.
