The Town of Oakville is excited to embark on creating a new, bold vision for the future of transportation with an update to its Transportation Master Plan (TMP). As part of this work, the town is inviting residents to get involved to help shape the future of transportation within the community, that will accommodate growth to 2051.
The TMP will establish a comprehensive multi-modal plan with policies, programs and infrastructure improvements to enhance mobility for all road users, including a focus on more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, cycling and transit, supporting the town’s vision to be a vibrant and livable community for all.
With changing demographics, technological advancements, and environmental considerations, the updated plan will reflect the needs and aspirations of residents and visitors for today and info the future.
At the first Public Information Centre (PIC) on December 7, members of the public can speak with town staff to learn about the TMP study process, key project objectives, challenges and opportunities for Oakville’s transportation network and provide valuable insight to help inform the TMP update.
Thursday, December 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road
A staff presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will also be live streamed on the town’s YouTube channel.
Over the coming weeks, residents are also invited to share input through an online survey, and at a pop-up event at the Oakville Public Library – Central Branch to take place later this winter. Additional engagement opportunities will be planned for spring 2024 to provide residents with an opportunity to review the TMP’s draft recommendations, as well as in fall 2024 to present the final draft report and implementation plan.
- To help shape the future of transportation throughout Oakville ensuring a safe, seamless and sustainable mobility experience for all, the town is creating a comprehensive, town-wide transportation plan in two phases of work – development of the Urban Mobility and Transportation Study (UMTS) and update to town’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP).
- The first phase, the development of the UMTS, is now complete, and the public and stakeholder feedback collected through this process will be used to help inform the update to the TMP and other town plans.
- Work on the second phase, to support the TMP update, will continue over the next year, with the project anticipated to be complete by late 2024.
“As we prepare for future growth across the town, we’re exploring opportunities to ensure people can get to where they need to be using more sustainable modes of travel. The Transportation Master Plan represents a blueprint for managing the evolution of mobility in Oakville into the future. It offers a lens through which staff and Council can use to evaluate options and make decisions as it informs the prioritization, design, operation and maintenance of town transportation infrastructure and how we build our community.”
