Visit PAMA this September for Doors Open Brampton, printmaking workshops, Culture Days activities and more!

Beat back-to-school stress and create with Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) with our many free and affordable opportunities this month for students and families to enjoy! Participate in printmaking workshops, Culture Days activities, and behind-the-scenes tours during Doors Open Brampton on Sept. 9 and more!

Free Events, Activities and Workshops

Saturday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Doors Open returns to Brampton! This initiative invites the public to explore buildings and sites free of charge. Visit PAMA on this free day and enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the Peel County Jail, archives, museum vault and more.

Schedule:

  • Archives Vault Tours: 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

See the archive vault and records in the collection. Limited to 10 people per group and will last approximately 20 – 30 minutes. Please sign up at the Museum front desk. The reading room will also be open for drop-in visits from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

  • Museum Vault and Workroom Tours: 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Learn about the museum collection and the rehousing project, see the new shelving and a selection of artifacts. Limited to 10 people per group and will last approximately 20 – 30 minutes. Please sign up at the Museum front desk.

  • Jail Tours: 11:00 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Discover more about the Peel County Jail. Stick around after the tour and complete a survey for your chance to win a prize valued at $250!

  • Art Gallery Collection on Spotlight: 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Learn about the process behind art making with pieces from the Art Gallery collection including the plaster molds and wax models from Augustin Filipovic’s practice.

Saturday, Sept. 16, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Make a Resin bookmark with local artists and entrepreneurs, Camille and Tash, from SheXArt. In this workshop, learn all you need to know to get started with simple resin projects. Camille and Tash will cover preparation, design, materials needed, proper handling, curing, and final touches in the resin making process. All skill levels are welcome.

This free program will be hosted at PAMA and requires registration with Brampton Library. Click here to register. For ages 8+.

Saturday, Sept. 23, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Join the Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) and the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) during Culture Days for a tour of the exhibition Yours to Discover: Sights/Sites of Peel Region. Be inspired by the sense of place that is uniquely Peel before we take it outside for a sketching tour en plein air. A French term, ‘en plein air’ is the process of creating artwork outside. Registration is required with BAO. Click here to register. 

Sunday, Sept. 24, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Discover something new during Culture Days! Drop-in and learn how to make a print using leaves, flowers and hammers. This drop-in is free for Culture Days. Donations welcome. Guardians must accompany children.  

Affordable Activities and Workshops

Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Explore exhibitions and connect over self-guided art projects that inspire creativity. Do-it-yourself studio time activities change every month. September’s activity: Discover the rich landscapes of Peel and capture the vibrant hues of fall foliage. Recommended for ages 5 and up, guardians must accompany children. This drop-in is included in general admission. Members are free. 

Sunday, Sept. 10, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Explore various printmaking techniques in this unique workshop. You’ll have the opportunity to make cyanotype sun prints and monoprints using gel printing plates. You will then apply what you learn to personalize your own tote bag. Recommended for ages 16+, and guardians must accompany children. Space is limited, and registration is required. Public: $15 +HST, Members: $12.75 +HST
