India put up 249/9 in their final Group A match of the Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand in Dubai. Shreyas Iyer (79 off 98 balls) was the top scorer, with Hardik Pandya (45) and Axar Patel (42) playing key supporting roles. Matt Henry (5/42) was New Zealand’s best bowler, taking a crucial five-wicket haul.
India lost early wickets as Shubman Gill (2), Rohit Sharma (15), and Virat Kohli (11) fell within the first seven overs. Kohli, playing his 300th ODI, was dismissed after a stunning catch by Glenn Phillips off Henry’s bowling.
Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the innings with a 98-run partnership before Axar (42) was caught by Kane Williamson off Rachin Ravindra’s bowling. Iyer’s second consecutive half-century in the tournament ended in the 37th over when he mistimed a short ball from Will O’Rourke.
KL Rahul (23) was dismissed by Mitchell Santner in the 40th over, while Ravindra Jadeja (16) fell in the 46th over, caught brilliantly by Williamson. Pandya fought hard but was dismissed by Henry in the final over, narrowly missing his half-century.
New Zealand, having already secured a semifinal spot, needed to chase 250 to top Group A, with India aiming to defend their total and set up a semifinal clash with Australia.
