Peel Regional Police have dismantled two violent criminal groups allegedly tied to a series of 17 brutal home invasions and jewelry store robberies that left several victims with life-altering injuries.
On Tuesday, police revealed the findings of Project Night Train, reporting that over 60 people — including nine children — were victimized in the crime spree, which spanned from May to December 2024.
One incident on October 15 saw three suspects storm a Mississauga home, where a victim was shot in the chest after an altercation. The victim was hospitalized in critical condition but later survived.
A week later, in Brampton, two suspects allegedly followed victims into a home, forced their way inside, and demanded keys to a luxury vehicle. One victim was beaten unconscious and then deliberately run over by the suspects in the stolen car, sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Police said their investigation revealed that both attacks were linked to two interconnected criminal networks using multiple suspects, including minors.
Twelve individuals have been arrested to date, while one suspect — 32-year-old Ali Mahdi — remains at large and is wanted on a warrant.
