Fatal Shooting in Brampton Plaza

A shooting occurred near Bramalea Road and Dewside Drive shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a man who was inside a vehicle at the time.

Authorities from Peel Regional Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from severe injuries. Despite emergency life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Const. Mandeep Khatra, initial investigations suggest that the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting had fled before police arrived.

“Based on the information available so far, we believe this to be an isolated event,” Khatra stated while addressing the media near the scene. “This is a tragic incident, especially in such a busy plaza. However, we want to reassure the public that every effort is being made to identify and hold those responsible accountable.”

Authorities are currently interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence from the surrounding area. As of now, no motive has been determined, and it remains unclear whether a weapon has been recovered. The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with relevant cellphone, dashboard camera, or security footage from the vicinity before or during the shooting to come forward with any information. The victim’s next of kin has been notified.

Community Reacts to ‘Shocking’ Incident

Azad Goyat, who oversees the plaza’s management, described the event as deeply unfortunate. “This is something we cannot tolerate happening in this plaza,” he said.

Nearby resident Amardeep Singh shared his concerns, noting that while incidents like this have occurred in Brampton, this particular case was unexpected. “It’s shocking. You don’t expect this kind of violence in Canada,” he said. “This is a peaceful country, part of the G7. Regardless of the reasons, incidents like this shouldn’t happen.”

Singh, who frequently visits the plaza, emphasized that the area is family-friendly and urged political leaders to take action against rising crime rates. “Brampton isn’t the same as when we were growing up. We need leaders—no matter their political affiliation—to address this issue urgently.”

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to gather more details about the incident.
