New Delhi, April 24 – In the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, leaders from across the political spectrum came together in a rare show of unity to support the government’s approach to national security. The all-party meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was convened to discuss the situation in Kashmir and deliberate on the immediate and long-term responses required to prevent similar incidents.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed full support for the government’s stance and emphasized the importance of standing united in times of national crisis. He stated that political differences must be set aside when it comes to matters of national security and protecting innocent lives. His sentiments were echoed by Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who urged for comprehensive steps to restore lasting peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, key officials from the Intelligence Bureau and the Ministry of Home Affairs briefed party leaders on the lapses that contributed to the attack. The presentation reportedly highlighted gaps in surveillance and intelligence gathering, sparking concern among the attendees. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who spoke to the media after the meeting, affirmed that all parties had expressed their commitment to supporting the government’s efforts against terrorism. “There is a clear consensus—every party stands with the government in the fight against terror. This is not just a political issue; it’s a national issue,” Rijiju said.
He added that the government had given assurances of swift and decisive action, both in terms of bringing the perpetrators to justice and in strengthening the security apparatus on the ground. The meeting also underscored the need for better coordination between central and state agencies, particularly in vulnerable regions.
