DORVAL — Mark Carney, leader of the Liberal Party, announced plans to overhaul Canada’s military procurement process and strengthen homegrown research in cutting-edge defence technologies.

As part of his proposal, Carney pledged to establish an independent agency focused exclusively on managing military acquisitions. The goal, he explained, is to eliminate delays and inefficiencies that have long plagued the current system, which has faced criticism for being both expensive and slow-moving.

In addition, Carney said a new defence research bureau would be created to advance Canadian innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cybersecurity—key sectors in modern military strategy.

He shared these commitments during a campaign stop at an aerospace facility in Dorval, Quebec. The visit is part of a broader tour through the province in the lead-up to the upcoming French-language leaders’ debate scheduled for Wednesday.
