Chandigarh, March 28 – A Mohali court on Tuesday sentenced Christian preacher Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment in a 2018 rape case. The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Vikrant Kumar, delivered the verdict after finding Singh guilty of sexually assaulting a woman under the pretext of taking her abroad. The victim also alleged that he made an obscene video of her.
The case was registered on April 20, 2018, in Zirakpur, Mohali district, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. Alongside Singh, five others, including pastors Jatinder and Akbar, as well as Sattar Ali and Sandeep Pehelwan, were also booked.
Bajinder Singh, 42, known for his claims of healing ailments through miracles, appeared before the court on Monday, after which the verdict was reserved. In February this year, he was booked again on charges of sexual harassment of another woman. A viral video from March 16 showed him slapping a Mohali woman who worked with his organization at his Chandigarh office. The woman had earlier filed a complaint, alleging inappropriate messages, unwanted advances, and sexual misconduct at his Jalandhar-based Church of Glory and Wisdom.
Following the latest allegations, a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur, has been formed to investigate the charges. The Punjab State Women’s Commission has also taken suo motu notice, ensuring security for the complainant.
In 2022, Singh was accused of fraudulently taking money from a Delhi family for treating their daughter, who later passed away.
