Edmonton police have charged a 22-year-old man with second-degree murder following the death of his partner in what investigators have identified as an intimate partner homicide.
Officers responded to a home in the city’s Silverberry neighbourhood on July 9, where they found 23-year-old Damanpreet Kaur unresponsive. She was taken to hospital but died three days later.
An autopsy determined that Kaur died from strangulation, a finding investigators had initially withheld as the investigation progressed.
Police have charged Ritish Kumar, 22, with second-degree murder.
Investigators say the case is being treated as an intimate partner homicide, and they are not seeking any additional suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.
