Iran Attacks 3 Ships In Strait Of Hormuz As Trump Extends Ceasefire Indefinitely

Tensions escalated in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday after Iran attacked three vessels, including a container ship, further destabilizing one of the world’s most critical energy corridors amid ongoing efforts to revive peace talks.

Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard reportedly fired on a container ship, damaging it, while also seizing two other vessels. Iranian media later confirmed a third ship, identified as Euphoria, had been targeted and left stranded near Iran’s coast, raising fresh concerns about maritime security in the region.

The attacks came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran, a move aimed at creating space for renewed negotiations. The ceasefire had been set to expire this week.

While Iran has acknowledged the extension, it has not committed to participating in a new round of talks. Planned negotiations in Pakistan have been thrown into uncertainty, with the United States suspending Vice President JD Vance’s expected visit to Islamabad after Tehran signalled reluctance to engage.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the ceasefire extension, saying it would provide crucial time for diplomatic efforts to continue.

Meanwhile, the maritime standoff between Washington and Tehran has intensified. The Pentagon confirmed U.S. forces have boarded another tanker linked to Iranian oil shipments, part of a broader crackdown on vessels tied to Tehran. Iran has condemned the move, calling it a violation of the ceasefire.

The conflict continues to take a heavy toll across the region. Iranian authorities report more than 3,300 deaths since the war began, while over 2,200 people have been killed in Lebanon. Additional casualties have been reported in Israel and Gulf states, along with losses among U.S. and Israeli military personnel.

With shipping routes under threat and diplomatic efforts stalled, the situation remains volatile, with global markets and governments closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
