BRAMPTON, ON – Andrew Kania, a seasoned lawyer and former Member of Parliament, has officially been nominated as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Brampton West. Kania, who has deep roots in the community, was formally introduced by Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, at a special event marking the next step in his political journey.
“I’ve known Andrew for years and have seen, time and time again, how he has fought for the people of Brampton — in the House of Commons, in court, and as a fierce advocate for his community,” said Crombie. “Together, we have a plan to deliver more for the people of Brampton. More affordability, by cutting income taxes and removing the HST from home heating and hydro. More access to healthcare, by connecting people to family doctors and cutting wait times in hospital emergency rooms. More for young people looking to afford a home, by cutting taxes on new builds and bringing fairness back to the rental market.”
Crombie, who served alongside Kania in the House of Commons, expressed confidence that Kania would be a strong voice for the residents of Brampton West. “It’s time to deliver more for the people of Brampton. I’m excited to announce that Andrew is officially our Ontario Liberal candidate for Brampton West!” she added.
In his remarks, Kania shared his enthusiasm for joining Crombie’s team and outlined the challenges facing Ontario’s residents. “Bonnie and I were Members of Parliament together. During that time, I saw firsthand her brilliance, good nature, and commitment to the people of Ontario,” Kania said. “I know she understands the affordability crisis under Doug Ford, and she will be focused on providing financial relief. I’m proud to be running as part of Bonnie’s team.”
Kania, Senior Counsel at Kania Lawyers, has over 33 years of experience in law, with a distinguished career that includes appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada and various other courts across the country. He also served as a Member of Parliament for Brampton West, where he held several key roles, including Associate Justice Critic and Chair of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations. Additionally, Kania was elected Secretary of the Ontario Bar Association, representing over 17,000 lawyers in the province.
Beyond his legal career, Kania has been deeply involved in his local community. He has supported underprivileged families, worked with local high schools on co-op placements, and contributed to local food banks. Kania also founded a Canadian charity at the request of Pope Benedict XVI and Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz to help fund the construction of the Pope John Paul II Memorial in Krakow, Poland.
Kania, who has been married to his wife Susan for over 30 years, is a father to two sons, Drew and James. He is committed to serving his community and fighting for the values that matter most to the residents of Brampton West.
With a strong background in law, politics, and community service, Andrew Kania is poised to make a significant impact as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Brampton West, advocating for greater affordability, better healthcare access, and fairer housing policies for the people of Ontario.
