Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet announced a list of demands on Wednesday that the government needs to meet by the end of October to avoid an early election.
During a press conference on Parliament Hill, Blanchet stated that the Bloc wants the government to pass a bill (C-319) that would increase Old Age Security (OAS) payments by 10% for seniors aged 65 to 74. The government had previously increased OAS payments for seniors aged 75 and older in 2022.
Blanchet also asked the government to support another Bloc bill (C-282) that would protect supply-managed farming sectors, such as dairy, poultry, and eggs, from future trade negotiations.
He emphasized that these demands must be fulfilled by October 29. If they aren’t, the Bloc will start talks with the Conservatives and NDP about potentially ousting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government.
