Brian Mangubat named Stouffville’s new town crier

Stouffville has named longtime resident Brian Mangubat as its new town crier, the first person to hold the role since 2016. The position honours the legacy of Marcel Bossi, who began appearing at local events in 1989 and was formally appointed a year later, serving the community until his passing in 2016. Mangubat, who has lived in Stouffville for nearly two decades, brings a commanding voice, a warm presence and a strong commitment to civic storytelling, supported by his professional background in the entertainment industry.

As town crier, he will represent Stouffville at official events, festivals and public celebrations. Mayor Iain Lovatt said reinstating the role pays tribute to local history while reconnecting the community with a cherished tradition. The town crier position was open to all residents and included written submissions, video auditions, live demonstrations in council chambers and interviews. Applicants were evaluated on voice projection, historical knowledge, community spirit and stage presence. While the selection committee noted the high level of talent among candidates, Mangubat stood out for his strong performance and genuine passion for Stouffville.
