Canada Ends Daylight Saving Time, Clocks Turned Back One Hour Nationwide

3 November: Most Canadians turned their clocks back by one hour this morning as daylight saving time ended, granting many an extra hour of sleep but also bringing earlier evening darkness. This time shift will lead to sunrise occurring an hour earlier each day, though regions like Yukon, most of Saskatchewan, and parts of eastern Quebec do not observe these seasonal clock changes.

The biannual clock adjustment has been associated with various health issues, including headaches and heart problems. Although discussions around abolishing daylight saving time have persisted for years, and some provinces have shown willingness to make the change if the U.S. does, there has been little action on this front.

Rebecca Robillard, a professor at the University of Ottawa and co-chair of the Canadian Sleep Research Consortium, emphasized that research supports staying on Standard Time for public health benefits. The next switch to daylight time is scheduled for March 9, 2025.
