18th December 2024: The organisers of Diljit Dosanjh’s concert in Chandigarh have received a show cause notice for violating noise level limits. During the concert on December 14, the noise exceeded the allowed limit of 75 decibels. At three different locations, sound levels ranged from 76 to 93 decibels.
The Chandigarh Union Territory administration reported this breach to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, recommending strict action against the organisers. The court has acknowledged the information and postponed the hearing until January.
Earlier, Diljit Dosanjh sparked controversy when he shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) referring to ‘Panjab’ instead of ‘Punjab’, which led to accusations of intentionally omitting the Indian flag emoji. In response, he clarified that the spelling difference didn’t change the identity of the state, explaining the meaning of ‘Panj’ (five) and ‘Ab’ (rivers) in Punjabi.
In a related development, singer AP Dhillon’s concert, originally scheduled for December 21 at the Sector 34 exhibition ground in Chandigarh, has been moved to the Rally Ground.
