Y Media Big Shot: R Ashwin retires from international cricket with immediate effect

18h Dec 2024: Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his immediate retirement from all forms of international cricket. The surprising news came right after the conclusion of the drawn third Test between India and Australia in Brisbane, where Ashwin joined team captain Rohit Sharma at the post-match press conference to make the announcement.

Ashwin’s last appearance was in the second Test against Australia in Adelaide, and he finishes his career with an impressive 765 international wickets across 287 matches. His Test wickets tally of 537 is second only to Anil Kumble’s for India, and Ashwin also gained attention for playing a key role in the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he hit the winning runs in India’s memorable chase against Pakistan at the MCG.
