Hamilton Student Found Dead in Toronto Waterfront, Family Seeks Answers

The family of Sahil Kumar, a 22-year-old international student from Hamilton, Ontario, is devastated and searching for answers after his body was discovered in Toronto’s waterfront 10 days after he went missing.

Kumar had moved to Canada from Biwani, India, in April and was studying web design at Humber College in downtown Toronto. He lived with roommates in Hamilton.

On May 16, Kumar took a GO train to Toronto. Surveillance footage shows him leaving Union Station and walking toward Yonge-Dundas Square around 1 p.m. That was the last confirmed sighting of him. His phone went off shortly after, and he was reported missing the next day.

Initially handled by Hamilton police, the case saw no early signs of distress or foul play. Authorities noted he didn’t carry his passport or laptop and had shown online interest in visiting the Toronto waterfront.

On May 26, Kumar’s body was found in water near an industrial section of Toronto’s lakeshore. The case has now been turned over to Toronto police, who confirmed the death is not currently considered criminal but emphasized the investigation is still ongoing.

Kumar’s grieving family is seeking clarity on what led to his tragic end.
