Hitman Tanner Fox Sentenced to Life for Killing Ripudaman Singh Malik

Tanner Fox, one of the two men who admitted to killing Ripudaman Singh Malik in a murder-for-hire plot, has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 20 years.

A B.C. Supreme Court judge handed down the sentence on Tuesday. Since second-degree murder comes with an automatic life sentence, the judge accepted a joint request from both the prosecution and defence to set Fox’s parole eligibility at 20 years.

Malik, 75, was shot and killed in July 2022 while sitting in his car outside his business in Surrey.

According to an agreed statement of facts, Fox and his accomplice, Jose Lopez, were hired and paid to carry out the murder. However, police and prosecutors have not disclosed who was behind the contract killing.

Both men were initially charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder. Lopez is expected to appear in court again on February 6.

Malik was previously charged in connection with the 1985 Air India bombings, which killed 331 people. However, he was acquitted in 2005.
