Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has received a major international honour, with the Los Angeles City Council officially declaring January 6, 2027, as “Diljit Dosanjh Day.”
The civic resolution recognizes Dosanjh’s contributions to globalizing Punjabi music and increasing South Asian representation in mainstream American culture. The honour was introduced by Monica Rodriguez and adopted by the Los Angeles City Council.
Dosanjh shared the news on social media, posting a video of the ceremony in which he received a framed resolution. Dressed in a traditional white kurta, pink salwar and turban, the singer appeared emotional as he accepted the recognition and thanked attendees.
The proclamation marks another milestone in Dosanjh’s growing international profile. Over the past several years, he has become one of the most recognizable Punjabi artists globally, performing at major venues across North America, Europe and Asia while helping bring Punjabi-language music into the mainstream.
On the film front, Dosanjh was recently seen in Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-starring Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari.
He is also awaiting the release of Panjab 95, directed by Honey Trehan and produced by RSVP Movies. The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
The Los Angeles recognition further underscores Dosanjh’s growing cultural influence and his role in bringing Punjabi music and storytelling to a global audience.
