MP Iqra Khalid Takes Part in Canadian Parliamentary and Humanitarian Delegation to Syria

The delegation visited several communities and met humanitarian organizations on the ground to see Syria’s recovery firsthand

From October 10 to 18, 2026, Iqra Khalid, Member of Parliament for Mississauga—Erin Mills, took part in a Canadian Parliamentary and Humanitarian Delegation to Syria led by UOSSM Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Arab Congress. Partner organizations included Human Concern International,
Human Appeal, Hands for Charity, ICNA Relief, IDRF, Action for Humanity, and Islamic Relief Canada.

UOSSM (Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations) is an independent, nonprofit medical relief organization that delivers international humanitarian and medical aid to people affected by emergencies, conflict, and natural disasters around the world.

During the visit, Members of Parliament and humanitarian leaders saw the impact of Canadian organizations’ work on the ground, met the communities UOSSM serves, and heard directly from Syrians about what they need as they rebuild after more than a decade of war. The delegation visited Darayya, Damascus, Tartous, Aleppo, Hama, and other communities, where they witnessed the humanitarian situation Syrians face today.

MP Khalid is grateful to have taken part in this emotional and informative experience, and to have been joined by fellow MPs Greg Fergus, Dr. Marcus Powlowski, Dr. Jacques Ramsay, Aslam Rana, Abdelhaq Sari, Salma Zahid, and Sameer Zuberi. Shethanks the Syrian communities for their generous welcome and remains deeply moved by the strength, dignity, and resilience of the Syrian people.

MP Khalid looks forward to continuing to advocate for Syrians affected by conflict and to working within Parliament to expand Syrians’ access to health care, infrastructure, and humanitarian aid.
