Peel Regional Police have officially launched the 2025 edition of Project E.R.A.S.E. (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere), a collaborative initiative aimed at reducing illegal street racing and aggressive driving across the region.
This annual multi-agency enforcement campaign involves highly visible and strategic operations targeting street racing, stunt driving, and unauthorized car rallies throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Since 2022, Peel Regional Police have seen a 154 per cent increase in street racing-related charges — jumping from just over 800 in 2022 to more than 2,100 in 2024. Over the past two weeks alone, 32 vehicles were seized and more than 400 charges were laid, including 26 for stunt driving. These figures highlight the ongoing need for robust road safety enforcement and reinforce that reckless driving will not be tolerated.
In addition to police efforts, Peel Regional Police collaborate with the City of Brampton to enforce municipal bylaws — with fines of up to $800 for both participants and spectators of illegal car rallies. Offenders may also face criminal charges, vehicle impoundment, and licence suspensions.
To help keep roads safe, members of the public are encouraged to report dangerous driving behaviours by calling Road Safety Services at 905-453-3311, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by submitting an online report through Road Watch. Photos and videos of incidents can also be submitted via the official evidence submission portal.
Project E.R.A.S.E. is a joint initiative in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, and Hamilton Police Service.
To further support community efforts, Regional Councillor Rowena Santos (Wards 1 & 5, City of Brampton) is launching a pilot online tool that allows residents to identify and report reckless driving hotspots. Selected neighbourhood associations will be invited to participate. For more information, contact rowena.santos@brampton.ca.
