Shooting Suspect At White House Correspondents’ Dinner Identified As Part-time Teacher, Game Developer

A 31-year-old man identified as Cole Tomas Allen has been named as the suspect in the shooting incident at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C., according to law enforcement officials.

Allen, a resident of Torrance, California, is described as a part-time teacher and independent game developer with a background in engineering and computer science. He is believed to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the high-profile event was taking place. Authorities have not yet determined a motive.

The incident prompted a swift security response as gunfire erupted near the venue, which was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, along with senior officials and media representatives. The United States Secret Service confirmed that the suspect was armed with a shotgun and was taken into custody after allegedly opening fire at an agent outside the ballroom.

President Trump was unharmed and later described the response by security personnel as rapid and effective. He also suggested that he may have been the intended target, though officials have not confirmed this.

Social media and professional profiles linked to Allen indicate he previously worked as a mechanical engineer and later transitioned into teaching and game development. He is believed to have graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 and later completed a master’s degree in computer science.

Posts attributed to Allen show involvement in tutoring services and independent tech projects, with interests centred around science and technology. Additional claims regarding a manifesto and prior concerns raised by family members have been mentioned by the president but remain unverified by investigators.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the suspect gained access to the event and whether the attack was targeted.
