Mississauga, ON – Trillium Health Partners (THP) has reached another major milestone in expanding the future home of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre after receiving the City of Toronto’s official site plan statement of approval.
“We are grateful for the support of the City of Toronto and the community as we move forward. Trillium Health Partners is an essential part of our healthcare system, and this new hospital expansion will help ensure that our residents have access to the best possible care,” said Karli Farrow, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners.
This expansion of the Queensway Health Centre will establish a modern, dedicated centre for complex continuing care and rehabilitation services, enabling patients to receive care and recover closer to home. Once complete, The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will feature a nine-storey, 600,000 square feet facility with space for over 350 beds, all in private rooms.
“This project is a great example of what happens when we all work together,” said Etobicoke-Lakeshore MPP Christine Hogarth. “I am proud to support Trillium Health Partners and the important work they do in providing state-of-the-art patient care.”
“Improving our health care infrastructure is important to ensuring that patients receive the best care possible. The site plan approval is a great step forward for Trillium Health Partners and our community. I am happy to see the continued hard work and dedication of everyone involved as we work in collaboration to bring this project to fruition,” said Amber Morley, Toronto City Councillor, Ward 3, Etobicoke-Lakeshore.
Site Plan Approval is a critical step in the planning approvals process and has come about after many years of planning, design and engagement work. Work will continue with the City and partners to complete design plans followed by building permit approvals, Financial Close and construction start which is anticipated in 2024.
The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre is a vital component of the Trillium HealthWorks plan, a historic investment in health infrastructure that will shape the future of health care in our community and beyond.
