Trump appoints former Intelligence Chief Richard Grenell as Presidential Envoy for key global missions

December 2024: President-elect Donald Trump revealed on Saturday that he has chosen Richard Grenell, a longtime foreign policy advisor, to be his envoy for special missions. Grenell’s role will focus on assisting the incoming administration with some of its most pressing foreign policy challenges.

Grenell previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Germany during Trump’s first term, as well as the special presidential envoy for peace negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo. He also held the position of acting director of national intelligence.

Though Grenell was considered for the position of secretary of state, Trump ultimately nominated Florida Senator Marco Rubio for the role.
