10th December 2024: President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday the nomination of Harmeet K. Dhillon as the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the Justice Department. In a statement, Trump praised Dhillon for her consistent defense of civil liberties throughout her career, highlighting her efforts against Big Tech censorship, her advocacy for religious freedom during the COVID-19 pandemic, and her legal action against corporations using “woke” policies to discriminate.
Trump also emphasized Dhillon’s reputation as one of the leading election lawyers in the country, particularly her work ensuring that only legal votes were counted. A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia Law School, Dhillon previously clerked for the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Trump noted that Dhillon is a respected member of the Sikh community and expressed confidence in her ability to uphold constitutional and civil rights fairly and firmly in her new role.
In a separate announcement, Trump revealed that Mark Paoletta would return as General Counsel for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Trump described Paoletta as a brilliant and tenacious lawyer, commending his role in advancing the administration’s agenda and his leadership in securing funding for the southern border wall. As OMB General Counsel, Paoletta will focus on reducing government bureaucracy and eliminating wasteful spending.
