Hyderabad, March 27 – Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) chased down a target of 191 with ease to secure a dominant five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 7 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 70 off 26 balls, including seven sixes, set the tone for LSG’s chase, while Mitchell Marsh anchored the innings with a composed half-century. The duo shared a sensational 116-run partnership, surpassing LSG’s previous record for the highest second-wicket stand. Shardul Thakur, with figures of 4/34, was the standout bowler, dismantling SRH’s middle order and earning the Purple Cap.
Batting first, SRH began aggressively, with Travis Head (47 off 28 balls) and Abhishek Sharma setting a blistering pace. However, debutant Prince Yadav struck by dismissing Head, and Shardul Thakur followed up with quick wickets, including Abhishek (6) and Ishan Kishan (0). SRH’s middle order collapsed, with Heinrich Klaasen (14) run out and Nitish Reddy (32) bowled out. Aniket Verma’s quick-fire 36 and a brief flurry of sixes from Pat Cummins gave SRH a fighting total, but they finished with 190/9 in 20 overs.
LSG’s chase stumbled early with Aiden Markram’s dismissal by Mohammed Shami, but Pooran’s blistering knock and Marsh’s steady fifty took them within reach of the target. Pooran’s 18-ball fifty was the fastest of the season. Though Pooran fell to Cummins, Marsh’s partnership with David Miller and Abdul Samad saw LSG over the line with 193/5 in 16.3 overs, securing their first win of the season.
