In a high-voltage encounter of Pakistan Super League Season 10, Islamabad United delivered a commanding performance to defeat Multan Sultans by seven wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Chasing a target of 169 runs, United wrapped up the match with just three wickets down and 17 balls remaining, thanks to a stellar knock from Andries Gous.
Despite losing Sahibzada Farhan early in the third over, Gous partnered up with the seasoned Colin Munro to turn the tide in Islamabad’s favor. The duo built an 81-run partnership, with Munro narrowly missing his half-century by just five runs, scoring 45 off 28 balls. Gous remained the star of the match, smashing an unbeaten 80 off just 45 balls, packed with six boundaries and five towering sixes.
The chase was sealed with solid support from Mohammad Nawaz, who chipped in with 21 runs off 19 balls and built a crucial 55-run partnership with Gous. For Multan, the bowling unit looked largely ineffective, with Chris Jordan, Ubaid Shah, and Michael Bracewell managing to take one wicket each.
Earlier, Multan opted to bat and posted 168/8. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Yasir Khan opened with a cautious 51-run stand, but the middle order failed to capitalize on the start. Rizwan scored 36 off 37, while Yasir made 29 off 17 balls. Usman Khan emerged as the top scorer with 61 runs off 40 balls before being run out in the 19th over. Kamran Ghulam added a quick 13 in the death overs.
On the bowling front, Islamabad spread the load well with Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Jason Holder, and Riley Meredith picking up a wicket each. With this victory, Islamabad United continues to showcase its championship mindset, putting Multan Sultans on the back foot in the PSL 10 standings.
