13 January: Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown expressed gratitude after being awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal, describing the recognition as a deeply humbling experience.
During a ceremony held at Brampton City Hall, Brampton Centre MP Shafqat Ali and Brampton South MP Sonia Sidhu presented Brown with the medal. The city noted that Brown is the first recipient of this honor in Brampton.
“This recognition reflects my unwavering dedication to public service and my commitment to the people of Brampton and Canada,” Brown shared in a statement following the event. He extended his thanks to MP Shafqat Ali for nominating him and acknowledged the collective efforts of Brampton’s Members of Parliament in serving residents.
The coronation medal, crafted by the Royal Canadian Mint, commemorates the coronation of King Charles III as King of Canada. Details about the medal’s design and program were unveiled on May 6, 2024, marking the first anniversary of the coronation.
As part of the coronation’s anniversary celebrations, 30,000 medals will be distributed across Canada, including 4,000 designated for members of the Canadian Armed Forces. According to the Canadian government, eligible recipients must have been alive on May 6, 2023, and demonstrated a significant contribution to Canada or its provinces, territories, or communities, or achieved international recognition that brings credit to the nation.
The circular medal, struck in nickel-silver and coated with lacquer to prevent tarnishing, measures 32 mm in diameter.
