India, Japan Discuss West Asia Crisis And Hormuz Shipping In High-level Call

India and Japan have held high-level talks on the evolving West Asia conflict and global energy security, with a focus on ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in a 20-minute phone call on Friday, where both sides reviewed regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said the leaders discussed international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and appreciated Japan’s condolences for Indian lives lost in the conflict.

Japan welcomed the recent ceasefire-related announcements by the United States and Iran, describing them as a positive step toward de-escalation. Both sides emphasized that maintaining secure maritime routes through the strategically vital Hormuz Strait remains critical to global trade and energy flows.

The two ministers also called for closer coordination with the international community, underlining the importance of diplomacy in stabilizing the region.

Both India and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to working together to support de-escalation efforts, while promoting multilateral cooperation to strengthen energy resilience and ensure stable resource supply chains.

The discussion highlights growing coordination between New Delhi and Tokyo as geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to impact global markets and security dynamics.
