Councillor Paul Vicente Returns to AMO Board of Directors

Brampton maintains strong representation at Ontario’s municipal advocacy table

Regional Councillor Paul Vicente, representing Wards 1 and 5, has been acclaimed to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term, serving as a representative of the Regional and Single Tier Caucus.

The results were announced today during the 2026 AMO Annual Conference in Ottawa.

Councillor Vicente’s return to the AMO Board continues Brampton’s strong representation at Ontario’s leading municipal advocacy organization. His role provides an important platform to advance the priorities of one of Canada’s fastest-growing big cities and ensure Brampton’s perspective is reflected in province-wide discussions on issues affecting municipalities and their residents.

Councillor Vicente’s work on the AMO Board

Councillor Vicente has served on the AMO Board since 2020, bringing the perspectives of Brampton and Peel Region to province-wide municipal discussions. His advocacy has focused on:

  • Growth and housing: Advocating for practical solutions to help municipalities respond to rapid population growth and housing demand while building complete communities.
  • Infrastructure investment: Championing investment in the infrastructure growing municipalities need, including public transit, transportation networks, and water and wastewater systems.
  • Community safety: Advocating for policies, resources, and partnerships that support community safety and well-being.
  • Stronger provincial-municipal partnerships: Working to ensure municipalities have the funding, legislative support, and provincial partnership required to address local priorities and deliver results for residents.

During his 2026–2028 term, Councillor Vicente will continue working with municipal leaders across Ontario to strengthen AMO’s voice, advance practical policy solutions, and ensure Brampton’s priorities are represented in province-wide discussions.

Brampton advances priorities at the 2026 AMO Conference

Brampton is participating in the 2026 AMO Annual Conference with a clear focus on securing the investments needed to support the city’s continued growth. Key priorities include:

  • Transit and mobility: Advancing the Hazel McCallion Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Queen Street–Highway 7 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), as well as transit electrification and other transportation investments to reduce congestion, enable housing, and connect residents to jobs and opportunities.
  • Housing and growth-enabling infrastructure: Securing investment in water and wastewater capacity, shovel-ready infrastructure, community facilities, and downtown revitalization to support new housing and complete communities.
  • Health care: Accelerating progress on Brampton’s second hospital, securing approvals for a comprehensive Cancer Care Centre at Brampton Civic Hospital, and seeking provincial support to plan a third hospital. Brampton is also advocating for continued investment in William Osler Health System’s partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Medicine to train and retain more physicians locally.
  • Community safety and well being: Seeking stronger provincial support for justice system capacity, mental health and wellness services, homelessness prevention, community-based interventions, and emergency services to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population.
