Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan has announced that he will not be running in the next federal election, marking another departure from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet. Despite stepping away from electoral politics, Sajjan affirmed his continued commitment to the Liberal Party.
First elected in 2015 to represent Vancouver South, Sajjan has played a significant role in Trudeau’s government. Over the years, he has held various cabinet positions, including Minister of Defence, Veterans Affairs, International Development, and most recently, Emergency Preparedness.
In a statement shared on social media, Sajjan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Trudeau for his leadership and dedication to Canada. He acknowledged the increasing toxicity and polarization in politics and urged leaders to prioritize civility and mutual respect.
Sajjan also recently announced his support for Mark Carney in the Liberal leadership race, signaling his continued engagement in shaping the party’s future.
This announcement comes as the political landscape in Canada continues to shift, with several key members of Trudeau’s government opting not to seek re-election.
