Aug 3: In a decisive operation, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Surrey seized over three dozen firearms following the emergence of a video showing individuals dancing with firearms at a local celebration. The video, which quickly circulated on social media, prompted a swift response from law enforcement.
The RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in Surrey, leading to the discovery of 37 firearms, including two 3D-printed “ghost guns,” a pistol, 26 carbine rifles, two shotguns, and six hunting rifles. Additionally, the police confiscated various gun parts, body armor, and a substantial amount of ammunition, including hundreds of magazines, some of which were loaded and illegal.
A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene but was later released pending further investigation. The RCMP identified the individual as a significant threat due to the easy accessibility of the prohibited firearms and ammunition he possessed. The individual did not have known gang affiliations, but his activities were deemed dangerous due to the indiscriminate sale of these weapons.
The seizure underscores the ongoing issues related to illegal firearm possession and distribution in Canada. The RCMP emphasized the importance of community vigilance and reporting suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents.
The investigation is ongoing, and the RCMP have stated that many additional steps are required before any charges can be formally laid. This operation is part of a broader effort by law enforcement to address and mitigate the risks posed by illegal firearms in the community.
