August 15: The Toronto Police Service’s Integrated Gun & Gang Task Force – Major Projects Section initiated an 11-month investigation called Project Foxxx in September 2023.
This operation, a joint effort involving the Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police, Peel Regional Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police, aimed to dismantle the Jamestown Crips’ drug and firearm trafficking network. The investigation was supported by funding from the Ontario Government’s Ministry of the Solicitor General and coordinated by the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario.
The Jamestown Crips, a well-known street gang based in Toronto, have been accused of illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking across Ontario, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Allegations suggest that the gang concealed drugs and attempted to distribute them via Canada Post.
Deputy Chief Rob Johnson emphasized the significance of inter-agency cooperation in dismantling these criminal networks, stating, “This investigation shows our commitment to disrupting these operations not just in Toronto but across the country, ensuring our communities’ safety. We know drug trafficking contributes to addiction, violence, and crime, and we are determined not to let criminal gangs, firearms, or drugs compromise the safety and quality of life in our city.”
Between April and July 2024, law enforcement carried out 35 search warrants across various cities, including Toronto, Hamilton, Vaughan, Brampton, Mississauga, Guelph, and Thompson, Manitoba, resulting in the arrest of 32 individuals.
The investigation also led to the confiscation of nine firearms, 4.7 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately $568,000, six kilograms of methamphetamine worth around $480,000, and over $320,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
