Investigators from Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau (CRB) have charged two individuals after an armed carjacking in Brampton.
On Thursday, November 23, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., the victim, a 43-year-old man from King City, Ontario, attended a parking lot in the area of Biscayne Crescent and First Gulf Boulevard in Brampton to sell his 2022 Mercedes G Wagon to a potential buyer. Two suspects arrived, and one brandished a firearm and made demands for the victim’s car keys. The victim complied. One suspect drove away in the victim’s vehicle while the other followed.
As a result of the quick and coordinated efforts of investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau, the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Tactical Unit, as well as assistance from the Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) and the York Regional Police (YRP) helicopter, officers were able to track the vehicles to Weston Road and Highway 401 where they met up with an F-150 truck. Peel Regional Police Tactical Unit attempted to stop the G Wagon when it intentionally made contact with the police vehicle and fled. The Tactical Unit officers were able to take the occupants of the F-150 into custody. The York Regional Police helicopter kept surveillance on the G Wagon as it fled the area. A short distance away, the suspect driver got out of the vehicle, fled on foot and committed a second carjacking of a white Honda Odyssey van.
Naman Singh, a 19-year-old man from Brampton, is charged with the following offence:
- Robbery
- He was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Henry Pazer, a 27-year-old man from Mississauga, is charged with the following offence:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- He was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.
The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are anticipated.
As a result of the rising incidents of violence related to auto crimes across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), local police services have combined resources and established a provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) to further co-ordinate law enforcement efforts in combating these crimes.
“Canada is now a source country of stolen autos and it has become the third largest revenue source for organized crime,” said Chief Nishan Duraiappah, Peel Regional Police. “Peel Regional Police will continue to invest and dedicate more resources to make more arrests, prevent more auto thefts, and recover more cars.”
This collaborative approach aims to disrupt the networks responsible for violent and high-risk auto thefts and maximize enforcement efforts against criminal organizations.
Co-led by the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, the task force is a collaboration between police services from across the GTA, including York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, Peel Regional Police, and other external agencies, including Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.
