An architecture firm involved in designing the Ontario Science Centre has criticized the provincial government’s decision to close the facility due to roof issues, describing it as unreasonable and driven by political motives rather than genuine safety concerns. Brian Rudy, a partner at Moriyama Teshima Architects, expressed surprise and disbelief over the sudden closure, arguing that it was unnecessary to shut down the entire building immediately. The science centre, designed by Raymond Moriyama and opened in 1969, sits in Toronto’s east end near the Don River’s west branch.
